Project Overview
Overview: This initiative addressed one of the most climate-vulnerable regions in the Sundarbans. The objective was to restore degraded coastal areas, enhance biodiversity and build resilience among displaced and at-risk communities.
Key Components:
Plantation of 79,200 mangrove saplings across 18 hectares of eroded coastline.
Engagement of 40 local women in mangrove nursery management and monitoring of planted saplings.
250 women engaged during seed collection and plantation drives.
Community-based awareness drives on climate resilience and the ecological importance of mangroves across 7 villages.
Livelihood strengthening through aquaculture, apiculture, homestead poultry & duckery and climate smart agriculture.
Impact:
Over 1,150 families protected through enhanced natural buffers against cyclones and tidal surges.
Improved biodiversity and carbon sequestration in a region facing rapid land loss.
Promotion of gender equity through income-generating roles for women.
