Project Overview

Overview:
This initiative addressed one of the most climate-vulnerable regions in the Sundarbans. The objective was to restore degraded coastal areas, enhance biodiversity and build resilience among displaced and at-risk communities.

Key Components:

  • Plantation of 79,200 mangrove saplings across 18 hectares of eroded coastline.
  • Engagement of 40 local women in mangrove nursery management and monitoring of planted saplings.
  • 250 women engaged during seed collection and plantation drives.
  • Community-based awareness drives on climate resilience and the ecological importance of mangroves across 7 villages.
  • Livelihood strengthening through aquaculture, apiculture, homestead poultry & duckery and climate smart agriculture.

 Impact:

  • Over 1,150 families protected through enhanced natural buffers against cyclones and tidal surges.
  •  Improved biodiversity and carbon sequestration in a region facing rapid land loss.
  • Promotion of gender equity through income-generating roles for women.
