Empowering Climate Vulnerable Communities Since 1996

SEED is a globally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to building climate resilience and advancing socio-economic equity among underserved communities pan India. Established in 1996, SEED has over 25 years of grassroots experience working across vulnerable regions, with a strong presence in the Sundarbans and other climate-sensitive landscapes.

Recognized for its community-centric, participatory approach, SEED has been honored with the Eastern India NGO Leadership Award (2023). Through its multi-sectoral programs, SEED has directly impacted over 3.6 lakh individuals, addressing complex challenges at the intersection of climate change, livelihoods, health, water security and education.

SEED's work is anchored in interdisciplinary research, community participation and strategic partnerships, ensuring that interventions are context-driven, scalable and impactful. The organization is a proud member of Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA), Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) under UNEP, Wetland Link International (WLI) Global and Asia Oceania, reflecting its national and global recognition.

Over the years, SEED has been entrusted with flagship projects supported by the World Bank, Rotary International, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (Government of India), NABARD, Trinity Challenge (UK), Signify Foundation and State Bank of India Foundation among others.

  • Promote environmental sustainability and ecosystem restoration through community-driven conservation, mangrove restoration and climate-resilient natural resource management
  • Strengthen livelihoods by facilitating climate-smart agriculture, aquaculture, livestock management and alternative income generation activities.
  • Advance social justice by advocating for human rights, education, health, nutrition and child welfare services, particularly for climate-affected and displaced communities.
  • Enhance disastvalue-transparenter resilience by implementing climate adaptation strategies and community-based climate awareness programs.
  • Foster multi-sector collaborations and strategic partnerships to scale impact and sustain long-term community resilience and well-being.
