Sahasya Sphiti- Sustainable Mustard Cultivation

Sahasya Sphiti- Sustainable Mustard Cultivation
  • Supported By: Mahindra & Mahindra CSR
  • Beneficiares: 600 tribal farmers
  • Duration: 2016-2018
  • Coverage: Mahindra & Mahindra CSR

Project Overview

Objective:

To introduce sustainable mustard farming among tribal communities for enhanced income and climate resilience in transitional agro-ecological zones.

Overview:

This project was initiated to create an additional income stream for tribal farmers living in transitional agro-climatic regions. With the rising unpredictability of seasonal rainfall, mono-cropping had become unsustainable. SEED introduced climate-resilient mustard varieties and conducted extensive training on sustainable agronomic practices. Through value chain development and marketing support, the project helped farmers stabilize incomes while reducing their dependency on water-intensive crops.

Impact:

  • Introduced high-yield, climate-resilient mustard varieties (Swarnadhara) across 400 acres.
  • Enhanced productivity by 40% and reduced pest incidence.
  • Improved access to markets through value chain linkages.
  • Diversified income sources for 600 tribal farmers beyond mono-cropping.
